Why you should not use detergent to clean your dishes(I will tell you how to solve this problem at the end of the article)

You appear to be spoiled for choice if you are seeking for eco-friendly dishwashing packs or non-toxic dish pods in green grocers or on the internet. Are they, however, truly non-toxic?

Unfortunately, green washing is a major issue in a variety of businesses, including cleaning supplies. Because there are no restrictions governing the terms "eco-friendly" and "green," companies use them to sell their products. Any company can use these labels, even if their products are dangerous!

HARMFUL RESIDUE FROM DISHWASHER DETERGENTS

Everyone is aware that dangerous substances in personal care products should be avoided. However, did you know that the chemicals in traditional cleaning products can also be harmful to your health?

This is owing to the fact that every cleanser leaves a residue. The kitchen cleaner we use on our counters and tables, the laundry detergent we use on our clothes that come into close contact with our skin, and, of course, dishwashing chemicals that come into contact with our plates, pots, and silverware!

Dish soap for sink cleaning and dishwashing detergents for automated dishwashers will leave toxic residues on the surfaces you eat from, even if the dishes are rinsed. With every meal we swallow, we will consume the hazardous residue.

Non-toxic cleaning products, such as dishwasher detergents, should be used to avoid dangerous chemicals on your surfaces.



DISHWASHER DETERGENTS EWG RATINGS

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) rates only 10% of dishwasher packs and powders as A, and only one - AspenClean dishwasher detergent pods - is EWG certified. Consumer products are rated by the EWG based on the ingredients' safety for human health and the environment, as well as decades of research.

An A rating indicates that there are no or few known or suspected health or environmental risks. That indicates that 90% of all dishwasher packs and powders listed on EWG have the potential to be dangerous.

Unfortunately, an EWG A rating does not imply that a product is free of dangerous substances. Because EWG's product scores are based on the sum of their ingredients' ratings divided by their weight %, a harmful ingredient in modest quantities may not have enough of an impact on the overall score to earn a B rating.

1,4-dioxane is a result of ethoxylation. 1,4-dioxane is a carcinogen that is strongly suspected in humans. It's also a known irritant with the potential to harm the nervous system. New York was the first state in the United States to establish a maximum contamination level for 1,4-dioxane in personal care and cleaning products.

Ethoxylated substances have modest levels of concern in and of themselves, but they are contaminated with ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, and hence with carcinogens. Ethoxylated substances are given a C by the EWG, indicating that they are of moderate concern and may pose some health and/or environmental risks.

Prevent ethoxylated substances if you want to avoid these carcinogens. They are as follows:

Alcohol ethoxylates, also listed as ethoxylated alcohol, alcohol ethoxysulfates, fatty alcohol ethoxylate, linear alcohol ethoxylate, alcohol alkoxylate, fatty alcohol alkoxylate (usually recognizable by the -eth ending):

  1. C12-14 Pareth-11
  2. Ceteareth
  3. Deceth-6
  4. Laureth-7
  5. Ppg-10-laureth-7
  6. Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES)
  7. Trideceth-4
  8. Poloxamers, such as Poloxamer 181 (polyoxyethlyene, polyoxypropylene block polymers)

POLYACRYLIC ACID

Because of their water-absorbing qualities, polyacrylic acid polymers or salts (for example, sodium polyacrylate) are frequently employed as anti-spotting agents in dishwasher packs or powders. Humans are not considered to be at risk from polyacrylic acid.

Polyacrylic acid, on the other hand, can be contaminated with caustic acrylic acid and acrylamide, which can cause serious skin burns and eye damage. Acrylamide is a very hazardous substance that is likely to cause cancer in humans and is a known respiratory and skin irritant.

SODIUM METASILICATE​

Many laundry detergents, dishwashing packs, and powders contain sodium metasilicate. It is utilized as a water softener and can significantly improve the cleaning product's performance.

The EWG, on the other hand, gives sodium metasilicate an F. Because it is exceedingly caustic, it can cause severe skin burns, eye damage, and breathing irritation. If you're seeking for a safe dishwasher detergent, stay away from sodium metasilicate-containing goods; sodium silicate is considerably safer.
